It's hard to believe we are already headed into the cooler weather months, although it's a welcome change to the humid weather we had last week. We started our short author study of Tomie dePaola last week and read Pancakes for Breakfast and Strega Nona. We are learning about story elements (beginning, middle and end) and using ven diagrams to compare and contrast stories. For Strega Nona, we wrote about our favorite part and made pasta pots. Tomorrow, we will read Big Anthony: His Story and compare it to Strega Nona. Today we looked inside of our Rotting Log and examined some of the insects that live inside. Pill bugs, crickets, millipedes and bess beetles to name a few.
