This week we have been working on sensory poetry. Previously, we popped some popcorn in our classroom and used our five senses to describe the popcorn. We used adjectives and practiced thinking about how describing words can help us elaborate in writing. We used Microsoft Word to type our poems and played around with font, size and color. Our published work is on display in the hallway so come check it out! In Social Studies, we started learning about Arizona, the state where the Hopi Native American Tribe lives. We practiced a guided imagery exercise and used colored pencils to draw what we pictured in our minds. There were photographs to help with some of the new vocabulary words, like Mesa, wispy clouds, gila woodpecker and road runner. We also looked at the Paloverde tree and thought about how it is different than the trees we have here in Massachusetts. Our guided imagery is on display in our hallway, so if you are in the area, come check it out! In math, we are starting a mini project in honor of the end of another calendar year. 2C students will make a calendar for 2017. It's a great way to help them practice their calendar skills. Be on the lookout for some fun photos next week. :)
