Yesterday we looked at the question: What causes a push or a pull? Students used different materials to show how different objects or environmental factors can cause movement. Last week, we also started taking a closer look at the rotting log with the help of Ms. P. We observed rotting logs outside of our classroom and came up with questions and theories as to how the tree became a rotting log. Students also took ipads to take pictures of their observations. We will be looking more closely at these photos on Thursday. In math, we began working on story problems and we practiced some new math strategies for solving double digit addition and subtraction We also saw kindergarten perform Carnival of the Animals. It was great to see the show and support our fellow students.

Happy St. Patrick 's Day! 🍀 Yesterday we went the Baker 6th, 7th and 8th grade performance of Mulan. Today we are going to start writing opinion pieces on our favorite character from the show. Today we got into groups and worked on posters about the seven continents. Each group became an expert on a continent. We will present our posters and take two column notes next week!
Between field trips, snow days and everything in between, we have been BUSY! We made adjective people to help us understand that adjectives are describing words. On Monday, we went to the Museum of Science to look at examples of motion. Students completed scavenger hunts and saw a forces and motion presentation. Below are some pictures of our trip. Some chaperones sent pictures from their day. If you have any good ones, send them to Ms. Curran! In CCT we practiced our critical thinking skills and following directions. We made finger people using details given to us by Ms. P. Then we talked to members of our group and compared our finger people. After, students added details, color and names. They created a story about a mystery favorite finger person and had others try and guess their answer. In math we started talk about the relationship between addition and subtraction. We used Cuisinaire Rods as a manipulative to bridge the relationship and write addition and subtraction sentences. Tomorrow we will look at fact families a little more closely.
Welcome to March! We have so many things happening in 2C right now! We finished our fraction ice cream cones. Next we are going to look at finishing up our fraction unit with comparing whole numbers to half, doubling numbers and taking a closer look at other fractions like 1/12. In science, we experimented with different materials around the room and made a scientific claim. We backed up our claim using the evidence found from the experiments. During CCT, we used critical thinking skills to put items in order. We thought about categories and what items we could add that would make sense.
