We are ready for our second grade feast! The second grade students at Baker School wrote down one thing they were thankful for on their turkey feather. Teachers hung them up in the second grade hallway, so be sure to check it out! We will see you at the feast on Wednesday!
Today we made place value pictures and practiced our understanding of expanded notation. We can represent numbers in multiple ways.
Last week in math we continued our study of place value. We learned a new game called cover a flat. Students practiced regrouping by trading in base 10 blocks. The first person to get to 100 wins We also continued our study of poetry. We wrote sensory poems about popcorn by popping the tasty snack in our classroom and took notes using our five senses Be sure to check out our poetry display in the hallway!
In social studies, we learned about the Sonoran Desert in Arizona and read Cactus Hotel. We made our own cacti using construction paper and colored pencils. We also wrote some facts about what we learned.
Today we read the book, What Happens to a Hanmburger? and conducted a teeth test. Students chewed a carrot 10 times and 30 times to compare the difference. Students began to understand the first step to the digestive system.
What happens to food once it is inside our body? 2C students made so e predictions in their science journals.
In Science, we wrote a advertisement for a nutritious food. 2C wrote slogans for a food of their choice to help prepare for our second grade Got Milk? campaign. Our posters are hanging in our room so be sure to check them out if you happen to stop by. 2C students wrote first draft plans for their advertisement, then second drafts and final copies.
Last Friday was a fun and busy day full of Halloween festivities. Second grade students went to different classrooms and participated in Halloween themed activities. They made a spider model out of paper, an acrostic poem and estimated the height and weight of pumpkins. In 2C, second graders created a 3D mural of a spooky halloween setting, complete with a haunted house, graveyard and pumpkin patch. They used paint, construction paper, markers and more to make the mural. It is hanging in our second grade hallway, so be sure to check it out! We had a great time at the Halloween Parade! We also decorated our paper mache hot air balloons. Thank you again to the parent volunteers who came in to help! They are hanging in the classroom so come by and check them out!
