It has been awhile since we've had an update on our classroom happenings.....mostly because we have been SO busy! We've been earning our perseverance prize in 2C! We are so proud of our winners. We learned two new activities in math called 10 Fingers High and Low and 10 to 20 Odd or Even. We practiced writing in our journals in response to a ten frame image on the white board. We made our hot air balloons out of paper mache in record time. It was so fast, I only got a picture of the finished product! This week we will decorate them with tissue paper and mod podge. We made nutrition advertisements in preparation for got milk? Picture Day was a success! Here's a sneak peak: On Thursday we decorated our hot air balloons. Thank you to the parent helpers for donating some time to come and work with us! Lastly, we FINALLY received our rotting log for our year long science unit. Teachers had a "fun time" putting it together, crickets and all :) Have a great weekend!
When we come back from our FIVE DAY VACATION in October (I still can't believe it) we will continue learning about hot air balloons, non-fiction text features and prepare for our annual hot air balloon project. Students will get to create their own paper mache hot air balloons. Today we also started a new award system in the classroom called: The Perseverance Prize. Every day, a student who shows excellence in persevering through a task that might not come easy to them, will be awarded The Perseverance Prize. We will post that person's picture on twitter.
Below are some photos from the week. Happy Long Weekend! 2C has spent a lot of time wondering how fruits and vegetables are the same and different. We know that fruits grow from seeds, but how do vegetables grow if they don't have seeds? Ms. P came in to help us investigate this question. She brought in A TON of stuff from her garden. That, along with some of Ms. Curran's store bought veggies made 2C look more like a farmer's market than a second grade classroom. It was awesome! Students chose a vegetable. Teachers helped cut the base and students got to work adding toothpicks, water and containers. We labeled our foods and started to record in our journals. We will finish those recordings tomorrow. In word study news, we practiced Buddy Sort with our partners. This helped us get ready for tonight's homework, Write Sort.
This week we started our word study routine. We worked in our small groups, we practiced sorting and recording our words, we are getting word study homework AND we learned a new game called Roll - a - Word. |
