Today 2C practiced working in their math stations. We are working on patterns, fact families and adding and subtracting on the number line. 2C also began their study of our rotting log. Students made their first observation of one of the creatures (a millipede) in the rotting log. In Spanish, 2C students continued their conversational Spanish with Profe.
Practicing conversation in Spanish with Profe Vergarra. Earlier today, we did some more practice with repeating patterns and growing patterns in our Lab books. 2C would also like to introduce our newest members: 2 hermit crabs. Names will be decided soon, but we are very excited!
2C students began our study of nutrition today. We read Gregory, The Terrible Eater by Mitchell Sharmat. We made a poster of Healthy Foods and Not So Healthy Foods. We used our notes from our discussion of the 2C C.A.R.E.S. (Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy and Self-Control) and made drawings to represent each word and how students show how they cooperate, assert, be responsible, be empathetic and use self control. Then we made a class contract of rules we promise to abide by for the school year. We started reading Gooney Bird Greene by Lois Lowry during our snack time read aloud. In math we started our study of using counting strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Today we looked at growing patterns and repeating patterns.
Today 2C learned and played two math games to help build fluency in combinations of 10. We played tens go fish and turn over ten. These will be apart of our math centers that we will start next week.
We created a 2C birthday graph this morning. 2C noticed there are 0 birthdays in October and the most birthdays are in January. We recorded our findings in our math journals.
Welcome to 2C! We were busy writing an I'm terrific on the first day of school prompt, explored the classroom through a scavenger hunt, and played 2C Name Bingo. We read Second Grade Rocks at snack time.
