Whew! We have been up to quite a few things this past month in 2C and it's time for a recap! We continued our celebration of Martin Luther King Jr's life and listened to his famous "I have a dream" speech. We made handprints with our dreams for the world. We had a special presentation at our school. The third grade teachers invited second graders to watch an interactive presentation on structures. It was a great preview to next year's science curriculum. We began our study of the 7 continents of our world. We worked in groups to create continent posters. We then presented them to the class. We completed our Shape Our World mapping activity. Students created a map of the continents using construction paper. After Monday's Snow Day, we got busy working on our ice cream cone fraction project. The posters are almost done and will be hanging up in our classroom after February Vacation. Second graders worked on their understanding of 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4. On Thursday we celebrated the 100th Day of School. Second graders moved to the different second grade classrooms to try different activities related to the number 100, including a 100 Snowflake Search. 100 snowflake cutouts were hidden in the four classrooms for students to find.......we are still looking for them :) Check out some of our 100th Day projects! Lastly, we started working on our next science unit: MOTION! On Thursday, we played around with different materials and tried to figure out how things move. Students did an amazing job using science terminology like force, push, pull, work and energy. Have a fabulous February Break!
